Twilio is looking for a Principal Network Engineer to oversee the overall voice infrastructure of Twilio’s carrier platform and manage day-to-day operations with all of Twilio’s carrier partners. The right candidate will be passionate about serving customers and have deep telecom experience, a strength that will go a long way is the ability to dig into voice packet capture and track a problem down to its root cause. You should enjoy looking at network designs and be able to spot flaws or deficiencies that have the potential to cause problems for our customers. Getting into the gritty details to solve meaty customer problems should be an enjoyable adventure for you. You have experience building and operating production service provider networks for security, scalability, and reliability. You should be used to a high-paced telecom environment with shifting priorities and understand how to juggle a wide range of issues.
In this role, you will work with carrier partners, customers, and internal engineering teams as well as mentor carrier engineers in operating and troubleshooting our global telecommunications network. The role will include handling urgent escalations and working across multiple teams to resolve issues. You will have an eye for detail in maintaining our interconnection standards and designing and implementing monitoring and automation for our network. In addition, you should be able to navigate the Twilio organization to partner with the right teams for the problems we are trying to solve for our customers. You should be able to apply what you know about voice over IP networks to a microservices setup. You know that things change quickly so that what you were taught in month 1 might need to be reevaluated in month 5 due to architecture changes that can happen quickly in an agile environment. There is no manual. Here at Twilio drawing the owl (i.e., the ability to dive and figure it out on your own) can be a road to systemic improvements and personal discovery.

This position will be located in our beautiful office at 375 Beale Street in San Francisco (or you can work remotely just about anywhere in the world and make periodic trips to San Francisco).
