Senior Engineering Manager - Serverless

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager interested in developing Twilio’s suite of serverless products. We are looking for an engineering leader comfortable working up and down the technology stack, as our serverless products include everything from the large-scale distributed backend that makes up Twilio Runtime to the gorgeous drag-and-drop visual interface of Twilio Studio. You will be responsible for the team managing a complex distributed platform concerned with high availability, throughput, latency, payload fidelity, and scalability. Additionally, there are significant data components so you will be working with distributed SQL, NoSQL, and data caches at Web scale.

You will lead software engineers and partner with tech leads and product managers to develop and bring our serverless products to market. You must have a strong product sense and architectural vision and have demonstrated the ability to execute on it. Twilions are expected to dream it and build it. As distributed computing is complex, we value effective engineers and leaders who are able to clearly communicate with their peers both verbally and in writing.  Ideal candidates are motivated, passionate, compassionate, customer-obsessed leaders that want to help in Twilio’s mission to fuel the future of communication.

You will be responsible for driving team priorities and managing the delivery and communication of planned projects and unplanned work.  As an Engineering Manager, you will collaborate with tech leads and product managers to guide requirements and roadmap and work to define measurable goals for the team, track progress, and maintain accountability.  You will provide support and guidance that enables the team to self-organize and to achieve sustained high velocity and predictability. A fantastic Engineering Manager is accountable and responsible for developing world-class, operationally excellent services in accordance with Twilio's engineering and operating standards while growing your team through mentorship, guidance, and career development.  Job responsibilities also include being on-call and participating in post-mortems, incident resolution, SLA definition, and operational reviews.

The Twilio platform enables companies to integrate communications directly into their applications via simple cloud APIs and with on-demand global reach. But the infrastructure and operations required to deploy and scale software applications can be a hurdle. Our serverless products, including Twilio Studio, Twilio Functions, and more, empower our customers to quickly bring their ideas to prototype to production to global scale, all on top of Twilio's elastic cloud infrastructure.

Twilio is a company that is empowering the world’s developers with modern communication in order to build better applications. The Engineering team plays an integral role in building out the products that allow our developer community to meet their communication needs.

Twilio is truly unique; we are a company committed to your growth, your learning, your development and your entire employee experience.  We only win when our employees succeed and we're dedicated to helping you develop your strengths. We invest in weeks dedicated to tackling hard problems and creating your own ideas. We have a cultural foundation built on diversity, inclusion and innovation and we want you and your ideas to thrive at Twilio. Come join us.

This position will be located in our beautiful office at 375 Beale Street in San Francisco.  You should expect the normal perks: catered meals, snacks, game room, ergonomic desks, etc. What you will also get to experience is a company that believes in small teams for maximum impact; that strives to balance work and home life, we know this is a marathon not a sprint; that builds an inclusive culture where we want all of our people to be comfortable and thrive.  We seek out people who live by our values, who are challenged by problems, empower others to thrive, people who can draw the owl and not be beholden to one playbook.
