Codeanywhere vs Eclipse Che: What are the differences?

  1. Pricing: Codeanywhere offers a tier-based pricing model where users pay based on the features they need, while Eclipse Che is open-source and free to use without any pricing tiers or limitations.

  2. Installation: Codeanywhere is a cloud-based service accessed through a web browser, requiring no installation on the user's local machine, while Eclipse Che needs to be installed on a local machine or a server to be used.

  3. Collaboration Features: Codeanywhere emphasizes collaboration tools such as pair programming, shared servers, and chat, making it ideal for teams working together remotely, whereas Eclipse Che focuses more on individual development environments with limited built-in collaboration features.

  4. Customizability: Eclipse Che allows for extensive customization of the development environment, including adding new tools, languages, and plugins, providing a high level of flexibility, whereas Codeanywhere has a more limited set of pre-installed tools and customization options.

  5. IDE Performance: Eclipse Che can be slower to load and run compared to Codeanywhere due to its larger feature set and the need to run on a local machine or server, which may impact developer efficiency and productivity in some cases.

  6. Community Support: Eclipse Che benefits from an active open-source community that contributes to its development, offers support, and provides a wide range of resources, while Codeanywhere has a more limited community support structure due to its proprietary nature.

In Summary, Codeanywhere and Eclipse Che differ in pricing, installation requirements, collaboration features, customizability, IDE performance, and community support.

The main contenders here are VS code and Eclipse, because Koding is meant to be used by large companies and by devs who know what they are doing. Both VS code and Eclipse have pros and cons, but for someone who wants to learn, VS Code is a much better choice as it has a very simple UI and plugins are easier to find and download.

Eclipse isn't meant for learning purposes and was designed with the intent to be used by professionals. Also it is an amazing IDE for java, but isn't so good in other languages, while VS code is much more efficient in a vast number of languages.

The only likely issue you might be facing with vs code is that, at times, it can be a resource hog, and in extreme cases it is possible to crash. But it is very rare and I recommend you have at least 8GB ram and at least a dual 1.6 GHz CPU.
