Docker vs Karyon: What are the differences?
Docker: Enterprise Container Platform for High-Velocity Innovation. The Docker Platform is the industry-leading container platform for continuous, high-velocity innovation, enabling organizations to seamlessly build and share any application — from legacy to what comes next — and securely run them anywhere; Karyon: The nucleus or the base container for Applications and Services built using the NetflixOSS ecosystem. At Netflix, Karyon is a framework and library that essentially contains the blueprint of what it means to implement a cloud ready web service. All the other fine grained web services and applications that form our SOA graph can essentially be thought as being cloned from this basic blueprint.
Docker and Karyon are primarily classified as "Virtual Machine Platforms & Containers" and "Composable Web Service Framework" tools respectively.
Some of the features offered by Docker are:

- shareable, reusable apps
On the other hand, Karyon provides the following key features:
- Bootstrapping , dependency and Lifecycle Management (via Governator)
- Runtime Insights and Diagnostics (via karyon-admin-web module)
- Configuration Management (via Archaius)
Docker and Karyon are both open source tools. Docker with 54K GitHub stars and 15.6K forks on GitHub appears to be more popular than Karyon with 479 GitHub stars and 162 GitHub forks.
lxd/lxc and Docker aren't congruent so this comparison needs a more detailed look; but in short I can say: the lxd-integrated administration of storage including zfs with its snapshot capabilities as well as the system container (multi-process) approach of lxc vs. the limited single-process container approach of Docker is the main reason I chose lxd over Docker.
