FusionCharts vs Highcharts: What are the differences?

Introduction

FusionCharts and Highcharts are both powerful JavaScript libraries used for creating interactive and visually appealing charts and graphs on websites. They have some similarities but also certain key differences that set them apart. Let's explore these differences below.

1. Integration: FusionCharts supports integration with a wide range of technologies including jQuery, AngularJS, React, and even legacy technologies like ASP.NET and PHP. On the other hand, Highcharts mainly focuses on jQuery integration but also provides limited support for other frameworks.

2. Chart Types: FusionCharts offers a vast collection of chart types, including basic charts like pie, bar, and line charts, as well as advanced charts like maps, gauges, and funnel charts. Highcharts, on the other hand, provides a comprehensive set of basic chart types but has fewer options for advanced charts.

3. Customization Options: FusionCharts provides a high level of customization options, allowing developers to modify various chart elements like colors, fonts, backgrounds, and tooltips. Highcharts also offers extensive customization options but may require additional coding for certain advanced customization needs.

4. Animation Effects: FusionCharts provides built-in support for animation effects in charts, allowing smooth transitions and interactive user experiences. Highcharts also offers animation effects but may have limitations in terms of available animations and customization.

5. Accessibility: FusionCharts places significant emphasis on accessibility, ensuring that charts are perceivable, operable, and understandable for users with disabilities. Highcharts also pays attention to accessibility but may not have the same level of focus as FusionCharts.

6. Licensing: FusionCharts offers both free and commercial licenses, allowing developers to choose the best option based on their project requirements. Highcharts, on the other hand, is primarily a commercial library and requires a license for most usage scenarios, although it does offer a free version for non-commercial projects.

In summary, FusionCharts provides wider integration options, a greater variety of chart types, extensive customization capabilities, and a focus on accessibility. On the other hand, Highcharts excels in jQuery integration, offers comprehensive basic chart types, and requires licensing for most usage scenarios.

I've used Highcharts with both Angular Js Reactive applications (render as ReactJs) and also a bit of D3. Personally I found Highcharts to be the easiest to use but, with still quite a good level of customisability if you need it. graphs and charts then give D3 a try.
