Power BI vs Redash: What are the differences?
What is Power BI? A business analytics service. It aims to provide interactive visualizations and business intelligence capabilities with an interface simple enough for end users to create their own reports and dashboards.
What is Redash? Easily query an existing database, share the dataset and visualize it in different ways. Redash helps you make sense of your data. Connect and query your data sources, build dashboards to visualize data and share them with your company.
Power BI and Redash can be categorized as "Business Intelligence" tools.
Redash is an open source tool with 13.1K GitHub stars and 2.17K GitHub forks. Here's a link to Redash's open source repository on GitHub.
According to the StackShare community, Redash has a broader approval, being mentioned in 38 company stacks & 18 developers stacks; compared to Power BI, which is listed in 10 company stacks and 3 developer stacks.
Power BI is really easy to start with. If you have just several Excel sheets or CSV files, or you build your first automated pipeline, it is actually quite intuitive to build your first reports.
And as we have kept growing, all the additional features and tools were just there within the Azure platform and/or Office 365.
Since we started building Mews, we have already passed several milestones in becoming start up, later also a scale up company and now getting ready to grow even further, and during all these phases Power BI was just the right tool for us.
