BrowserSync vs Sublime Text: What are the differences?

Key Differences Between BrowserSync and Sublime Text

BrowserSync and Sublime Text are two widely used tools in web development. While both of them serve different purposes, they play crucial roles in improving efficiency and productivity for developers. Let's explore the key differences between these two tools:

  1. BrowserSync: BrowserSync is a powerful tool that allows developers to synchronize multiple browsers and devices in real-time. It enables live-reloading, allowing changes made to the code to instantly reflect in all connected devices. This feature is extremely useful for testing and debugging websites across different platforms and browsers simultaneously. BrowserSync also provides options for remote debugging, URL redirection, and cross-device testing.

  2. Sublime Text: Sublime Text, on the other hand, is a feature-rich text editor specifically designed for writing code. It offers a plethora of useful features including syntax highlighting, auto-completion, multiple cursors, and powerful search functionalities. Sublime Text supports various programming languages and allows for easy customization through plugins and packages. It provides a distraction-free interface and is known for its blazing-fast performance.

  3. BrowserSync Helps with Cross-Browser Compatibility: One of the primary benefits of using BrowserSync is its ability to sync browsers and devices, which helps in testing websites for cross-browser compatibility. As developers can instantly view the changes made to the code across different browsers and devices, it becomes easier to identify and fix compatibility issues.

  4. Sublime Text is a Powerful Code Editor: Sublime Text's main focus is on providing developers with a powerful environment for writing code efficiently. With its extensive set of features, Sublime Text allows for quicker code completion, easy navigation, and effective code organization. It also supports various plugins and packages that enhance its functionality further.

  5. BrowserSync Offers Network Proxy and Remote Debugging: BrowserSync provides a network proxy feature that allows developers to test and debug websites that are hosted on a local server through multiple devices. This eliminates the need for manual configuration and makes it easier to test websites on different devices simultaneously. Additionally, BrowserSync offers remote debugging capabilities, enabling developers to pinpoint and fix issues on remote devices.

  6. Sublime Text Supports Customization: Sublime Text is highly customizable, allowing developers to tailor the editor according to their preferences and workflow. With support for numerous plugins and themes, developers can enhance its functionalities and personalize the appearance of the editor.

In summary, BrowserSync is a tool focused on live-reloading, cross-browser compatibility, and synchronized testing, while Sublime Text is a powerful code editor with extensive features and customization options. Both tools play distinct roles in the web development process, contributing to improved productivity and efficiency for developers.

Visual Studio Code became famous over the past 3+ years I believe. The clean UI, easy to use UX and the plethora of integrations made it a very easy decision for us. Our gripe with Sublime was probably only the UX side. VSCode has not failed us till now, and still is able to support our development env without any significant effort.

Goland being paid, as well as built only for Go seemed like a significant limitation to not consider it.

Since communication with Github is not necessary, the Atom is less convenient in working with text and code. Sublim's support and understanding of projects is best for us. Notepad for us is a completely outdated solution with an unacceptable interface. We use a good theme for Sublim ayu-dark

I decided to choose VSCode over Sublime text for my Systems Programming class in C. What I love about VSCode is its awesome ability to add extensions. Intellisense is a beautiful debugger, and Remote SSH allows me to login and make real-time changes in VSCode to files on my university server. This is an awesome alternative to going back and forth on pushing/pulling code and logging into servers in the terminal. Great choice for anyone interested in C programming!
