I chose SQLAlchemy because it is the de-facto standard in the Python ecosystem. It's a rock-solid library that's time tested, and also enables developers to use modern Python features like asyncio, with a variety of database drivers.

I chose Python because it is a versatile language. The readability it brings to the codebase is invaluable. Python also has a mature community that is ever-growing, which means that there are a great variety of tools available in almost every domain.
