R vs Rust: What are the differences?

R: A language and environment for statistical computing and graphics. R provides a wide variety of statistical (linear and nonlinear modelling, classical statistical tests, time-series analysis, classification, clustering, ...) and graphical techniques, and is highly extensible; Rust: A safe, concurrent, practical language. Rust is a systems programming language that combines strong compile-time correctness guarantees with fast performance. It improves upon the ideas of other systems languages like C++ by providing guaranteed memory safety (no crashes, no data races) and complete control over the lifecycle of memory.

R and Rust can be primarily classified as "Languages" tools.

"Data analysis " is the primary reason why developers consider R over the competitors, whereas "Guaranteed memory safety" was stated as the key factor in picking Rust.

Rust is an open source tool with 37.3K GitHub stars and 5.85K GitHub forks. Here's a link to Rust's open source repository on GitHub.

AdRoll, Instacart, and Verba are some of the popular companies that use R, whereas Rust is used by Dropbox, Sentry, and Roundscope Ukraine Labs. R has a broader approval, being mentioned in 128 company stacks & 97 developers stacks; compared to Rust, which is listed in 39 company stacks and 105 developer stacks.

What are some alternatives to R and Rust?
MATLAB
Using MATLAB, you can analyze data, develop algorithms, and create models and applications. The language, tools, and built-in math functions enable you to explore multiple approaches and reach a solution faster than with spreadsheets or traditional programming languages, such as C/C++ or Java.
PHP
Fast, flexible and pragmatic, PHP powers everything from your blog to the most popular websites in the world.
JavaScript
JavaScript is most known as the scripting language for Web pages, but used in many non-browser environments as well such as node.js or Apache CouchDB. It is a prototype-based, multi-paradigm scripting language that is dynamic, and supports object-oriented, imperative, and functional programming styles.
Python
Python is a general purpose programming language created by Guido Van Rossum. Python is most praised for its elegant syntax and readable code, if you are just beginning your programming career python suits you best.
Java
Java is a programming language and computing platform first released by Sun Microsystems in 1995. There are lots of applications and websites that will not work unless you have Java installed, and more are created every day. Java is fast, secure, and reliable. From laptops to datacenters, game consoles to scientific supercomputers, cell phones to the Internet, Java is everywhere!

How developers use R and Rust

What are my other choices for a vectorized statistics language. Professor was pushing SAS Jump (or was that SPSS) with a menu-driven point and click approach. (Reproducibility can still be accomplished, you publish the script generated by all your clicks.) But I want to type everything, great online tutorials for R. I think I made the right pick.

Rust is used in Shirogane (https://github.com/Marc3842h/shirogane).

Shirogane is a osu! beatmap mirror built for shiro. We use Rust because of memory safe but still low level and high performance.
