Monitoring "Services" in Red Hat Linux?

I use several Monitoring "Services" in Red Hat Linux?

I use several Red Hat servers. They oversee several services, including autofs, crond, httpd, and postfix.

To determine the state of these services, I want to use SAM. Since they don't necessarily correspond with active processes, it would be good to check with SAM to see if, for example, the "network" service was in the "running" state. With the command line tool "service network status," I can verify that.

How can I monitor Services in the vast universe of SAM in a repeatable, "best practise" manner?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,
