Bubble vs Weebly vs Wix: What are the differences?
Introduction
In this article, we will explore the key differences between Bubble, Weebly, and Wix, which are the popular website building platforms.
Ease of Use: Bubble is a no-code platform that allows users to create web applications without any coding knowledge. On the other hand, Weebly and Wix are drag-and-drop website builders that offer a user-friendly interface for building websites with ease.
Customization: Bubble provides a high level of customization options, allowing users to build complex web applications with intricate workflows. Weebly and Wix also offer customization features, but they are more focused on providing ready-made templates and themes that can be easily customized.
Pricing and Cost: Bubble offers a free plan but has limited features, while its paid plans are more expensive compared to Weebly and Wix. Weebly and Wix have both free and paid plans, with affordable pricing options for users with different needs.
E-commerce Capabilities: Bubble has robust e-commerce capabilities, allowing users to create and manage online stores with ease. Weebly also offers e-commerce functionality, but it is not as advanced as Bubble. Wix, on the other hand, has a dedicated e-commerce platform called Wix Stores that provides comprehensive solutions for online selling.
SEO Features: Weebly and Wix have built-in SEO features, including customizable meta tags, sitemaps, and SEO-friendly URLs, which help optimize website visibility in search engines. Although Bubble allows custom SEO settings, it requires more technical expertise to implement compared to Weebly and Wix.
Third-Party Integrations: Weebly and Wix have extensive integrations with popular third-party services, such as payment gateways, email marketing tools, and social media platforms. While Bubble also allows integrations, it requires more manual setup and coding knowledge.
In summary, Bubble is a powerful no-code platform with advanced customization and e-commerce capabilities but requires more technical expertise. Weebly and Wix, on the other hand, are user-friendly website builders with a range of customizable templates and extensive third-party integrations, making them suitable for users with different budgets and needs.
I usually take a slightly different tack because the technical level of people I usually am dealing with is lower. I tend to be pitching to decision makers and not tech people. A bit of my standard answer is below.
Wix and Squarespace are proprietary systems meant for unsophisticated users who want to build their own websites quickly and easily. While they are good for that specific use case, they do not offer any way to move beyond that if your needs arise. Since they are proprietary closed systems if you need something more advanced at some point your only option is to start over.
WordPress is an Open Source CMS that allows much more freedom. It is not quite as simple to setup and create a new site but if you are talking to me then you are not looking to build it yourself so that is really a non-issue. The main benefit of WordPress is freedom. You can host it on virtually any decent web hosting service and since it uses PHP and MySQL you can have virtually any developer take over a project without problem.
I believe in open source because of that freedom. It is good for me as a developer and it is good for my clients. If something were to happen to me or my company you would have no problem finding another qualified WordPress developer to take over the site in a totally seamless fashion. There would be no need to start from scratch.
Additionally the extensible nature of WordPress means that no matter what your future needs, WordPress can handle it. Adding things like e-commerce and custom quoting systems are just two examples of advanced solution's that I have added to WordPress sites years after they were first built.
WordPress is used by tiny one person businesses all the way up to major websites like the NY Times and I think it is right for this project as well.
