Angular UI Bootstrap vs Bootstrap: What are the differences?

Introduction

Angular UI Bootstrap and Bootstrap are two popular libraries used for web development. While both frameworks are built for enhancing the user interface, there are key differences between the two. This markdown code will outline and describe six specific differences between Angular UI Bootstrap and Bootstrap.

  1. Components and Directives: Angular UI Bootstrap provides a set of native AngularJS directives that enhance the functionality of Bootstrap components. This means that developers can directly use AngularJS directives instead of writing custom JavaScript. In contrast, Bootstrap relies on jQuery for its components and functionalities.

  2. Dependency Management: Angular UI Bootstrap is built to work seamlessly with AngularJS, which means it has a dependency on AngularJS. This allows Angular UI Bootstrap to leverage the features and functionalities of AngularJS. On the other hand, Bootstrap does not have any specific dependencies and can be used with any JavaScript framework or library.

  3. Accessibility and Keyboard Navigation: Angular UI Bootstrap offers improved accessibility and keyboard navigation support out of the box. It ensures that all of its components are accessible by default and can be easily navigated using keyboard controls. In Bootstrap, accessibility and keyboard navigation need to be manually implemented or customized.

  4. Customization and Theming: Angular UI Bootstrap provides a theming system that allows developers to customize the look and feel of their application using predefined themes or by creating their own custom themes. Bootstrap also provides a similar theming system, but Angular UI Bootstrap offers more flexibility in terms of customization and theming.

  5. Testing and Documentation: Angular UI Bootstrap is extensively tested and comes with comprehensive documentation that covers all aspects of the library. It provides detailed examples and guidelines for developers to easily understand and use the library. Bootstrap also has good documentation, but it may not be as extensive or specific to AngularJS.

  6. Community and Support: Angular UI Bootstrap has a dedicated community of AngularJS developers who actively contribute to the library, provide support, and create plugins or extensions. Bootstrap has a larger community with a wider range of resources and plugins available. However, the Angular UI Bootstrap community focuses specifically on improving and extending the library for AngularJS applications.

In summary, Angular UI Bootstrap provides native AngularJS directives, has dependencies on AngularJS, offers better accessibility and keyboard navigation, has a more flexible customization and theming system, comes with extensive testing and documentation, and has a dedicated community of AngularJS developers for support and resources.

Decided

I do prefer to write things from scratch however when it came to wanting to jump-start the frontend, I found that it was taking me a lot longer hence why needing to use something very fast.

Bootstrap was the boom when it came out, I didn't like it, to be honest, set in its way and a pain to over-ride and in addition, you can tell from a distance if you're using boostrap and as everything looks the same.

I came across Tailwind CSS as I wanted more dynamic features, you could say, I've been now doing it for a few days and I love it a lot. I've been practising with the full stack part installed but I an't we wait until I do a new project, and I'll e able to select exactly what I want. Much faster.

Needs adviceonNew RelicNew RelicNext.jsNext.jsReactReact

I'm building, from scratch, a webapp. It's going to be a dashboard to check on our apps in New Relic and update the Apdex from the webapp. I have just chosen Next.js as our framework because we use React already, and after going through the tutorial, I just loved the latest changes they have implemented.

But we have to decide on a CSS framework for the UI. I'm partial to Bulma because I love that it's all about CSS (and you can use SCSS from the start), that it's rather lightweight and that it doesn't come with JavaScript clutter. One of the things I hate about Bootstrap is that you depend on jQuery to use the JavaScript part. My boss loves UIkIt, but when I've used it in the past, I didn't like it.

What do you think we should use? Maybe you have another suggestion?

Needs adviceonBootstrapBootstrapTailwind CSSTailwind CSS

I am planning to redesign my entire application, which is currently in Bootstrap. I heard about Tailwind CSS, and I think its really cool to work with. Is it okay if I use Bootstrap and Tailwind together? I can't remove Bootstrap altogether, as my application is using the js dependencies of Bootstrap, which I don't want to disturb.

What are some alternatives to Bootstrap, Angular UI Bootstrap?

jQuery

jQuery

jQuery is a cross-platform JavaScript library designed to simplify the client-side scripting of HTML.

AngularJS

AngularJS

AngularJS lets you write client-side web applications as if you had a smarter browser. It lets you use good old HTML (or HAML, Jade and friends!) as your template language and lets you extend HTML’s syntax to express your application’s components clearly and succinctly. It automatically synchronizes data from your UI (view) with your JavaScript objects (model) through 2-way data binding.

React

React

Lots of people use React as the V in MVC. Since React makes no assumptions about the rest of your technology stack, it's easy to try it out on a small feature in an existing project.

Vue.js

Vue.js

It is a library for building interactive web interfaces. It provides data-reactive components with a simple and flexible API.

jQuery UI

jQuery UI

Whether you're building highly interactive web applications or you just need to add a date picker to a form control, jQuery UI is the perfect choice.

Foundation

Foundation

Foundation is the most advanced responsive front-end framework in the world. You can quickly prototype and build sites or apps that work on any kind of device with Foundation, which includes layout constructs (like a fully responsive grid), elements and best practices.

Semantic UI

Semantic UI

Semantic empowers designers and developers by creating a shared vocabulary for UI.

Materialize

Materialize

A CSS Framework based on material design.

Material Design for Angular

Material Design for Angular

Material Design is a specification for a unified system of visual, motion, and interaction design that adapts across different devices. Our goal is to deliver a lean, lightweight set of AngularJS-native UI elements that implement the material design system for use in Angular SPAs.

Svelte

Svelte

If you've ever built a JavaScript application, the chances are you've encountered – or at least heard of – frameworks like React, Angular, Vue and Ractive. Like Svelte, these tools all share a goal of making it easy to build slick interactive user interfaces. Rather than interpreting your application code at run time, your app is converted into ideal JavaScript at build time. That means you don't pay the performance cost of the framework's abstractions, or incur a penalty when your app first loads.
