AWS CloudHSM vs Digital Guardian: What are the differences?

What is AWS CloudHSM? Dedicated Hardware Security Module (HSM) appliances within the AWS cloud. The AWS CloudHSM service allows you to protect your encryption keys within HSMs designed and validated to government standards for secure key management. You can securely generate, store, and manage the cryptographic keys used for data encryption such that they are accessible only by you. AWS CloudHSM helps you comply with strict key management requirements without sacrificing application performance.

What is Digital Guardian? No-compromise data protection that stops data loss. Your organization relies on sensitive data, you need no-compromise data protection. Cloud-delivered for reduced complexity, cross platform coverage for zero gaps, and flexible controls to align with your risk profile.

AWS CloudHSM and Digital Guardian can be categorized as "Data Security Services" tools.

Some of the features offered by AWS CloudHSM are:

  • Protect and store your cryptographic keys with industry standard, tamper-resistant HSM appliances. No one but you has access to your keys (including Amazon administrators who manage and maintain the appliance).
  • Use your most sensitive and regulated data on Amazon EC2 without giving applications direct access to your data's encryption keys.
  • Store and access data reliably from your applications that demand highly available and durable key storage and cryptographic operations.

On the other hand, Digital Guardian provides the following key features:

  • Detect and respond to threats faster and more efficiently, regardless of the threat, with big data cloud services powered by AWS
  • Delivers the deepest visibility and control available on the market across Windows, macOS, and Linux. Capabilities range from logging to blocking threats to your data
  • Supports compliance by protecting data at rest and data in motion with low overhead using Database Record Matching fingerprinting technology

What are some alternatives to AWS CloudHSM and Digital Guardian?
    AWS Key Management Service
AWS Key Management Service (KMS) is a managed service that makes it easy for you to create and control the encryption keys used to encrypt your data, and uses Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) to protect the security of your keys. AWS Key Management Service is integrated with other AWS services including Amazon EBS, Amazon S3, and Amazon Redshift. AWS Key Management Service is also integrated with AWS CloudTrail to provide you with logs of all key usage to help meet your regulatory and compliance needs.
    Azure Key Vault
Secure key management is essential to protect data in the cloud. Use Azure Key Vault to encrypt keys and small secrets like passwords that use keys stored in hardware security modules (HSMs). For more assurance, import or generate keys in HSMs, and Microsoft processes your keys in FIPS 140-2 Level 2 validated HSMs (hardware and firmware). With Key Vault, Microsoft doesn’t see or extract your keys. Monitor and audit your key use with Azure logging—pipe logs into Azure HDInsight or your security information and event management (SIEM) solution for more analysis and threat detection.
    AWS Certificate Manager
It removes the time-consuming manual process of purchasing, uploading, and renewing SSL/TLS certificates. With this service, you can quickly request a certificate, deploy it on AWS resources.
    Postman
