Chartio vs Mode: What are the differences?

  1. Data Visualization Features: Chartio offers a wide range of visualization options such as charts, graphs, and dashboards, enabling users to easily create visually appealing reports and presentations. On the other hand, Mode focuses more on providing interactive data visualizations that allow users to dig deeper into the data and customize their visualizations based on specific needs.

  2. Collaboration Capabilities: Chartio provides strong collaboration features that allow team members to work together on data analysis projects, share insights, and provide feedback in real-time. In contrast, Mode emphasizes on facilitating collaboration through shared SQL queries and code snippets, enabling users to work together on complex data queries and analyses.

  3. Data Exploration Tools: With Chartio, users can explore data through a drag-and-drop interface, making it easy for non-technical users to analyze and visualize data. Mode, however, offers advanced data exploration tools such as SQL notebooks and data visualization libraries, catering to users with a higher level of technical expertise and familiarity with SQL.

  4. Deployment Options: Chartio primarily focuses on cloud-based deployment, offering a convenient and scalable solution for businesses looking to adopt a hosted data visualization platform. On the other hand, Mode provides both cloud-based and on-premises deployment options, giving users more flexibility in choosing how and where to deploy their data analytics solution.

  5. Integration Capabilities: Chartio offers seamless integrations with a wide range of data sources and databases, allowing users to connect and visualize data from various sources within a single platform. In comparison, Mode focuses on providing integrations with popular data sources and tools such as Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, and Python libraries, to enhance the data analysis capabilities of users.

  6. Customization Options: Chartio provides a user-friendly interface with a focus on easy customization of charts and dashboards through simple drag-and-drop tools. In contrast, Mode offers more advanced customization options through its SQL-based approach, allowing users to fine-tune data queries and visualization parameters to suit their specific requirements.

In Summary, Chartio and Mode differ in data visualization features, collaboration capabilities, data exploration tools, deployment options, integration capabilities, and customization options.

Advice on Chartio, Mode

Review

Hey Alfaz, the tools you mentioned are not exactly BI tools and are essentially ELT tools meant to collect data from third-party data sources (tools used for sales, marketing, advertising, etc) and ingest the data into a data warehouse (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, etc). You can check out the linked article to learn more.

I have also recommended some BI tools like Mode, Looker, and SiSense. Happy to answer follow-up questions!

Decided

Very easy-to-use UI. Good way to make data available inside the company for analysis.

Has some built-in visualizations and can be easily integrated with other JS visualization libraries such as D3.

Can be embedded into product to provide reporting functions.

Support team are helpful.

The only complain I have is lack of API support. Hard to track changes as codes and automate report deployment.
