Dolt vs Memcached: What are the differences?

What is Dolt? SQL database with Git-like functionality, implements push and pull. It is a relational database, i.e. it has tables, and you can execute SQL queries against those tables. It also has version control primitives that operate at the level of table cell. Thus it is a database that supports fine grained value-wise version control, where all changes to data and schema are stored in commit log.

What is Memcached? High-performance, distributed memory object caching system. Memcached is an in-memory key-value store for small chunks of arbitrary data (strings, objects) from results of database calls, API calls, or page rendering.

Dolt and Memcached belong to "Databases" category of the tech stack.

Memcached is an open source tool with 10.4K GitHub stars and 2.85K GitHub forks. Here's a link to Memcached's open source repository on GitHub.

      What is Dolt?

Dolt is a SQL database with Git-like version control features. Instead of versioning files, Dolt versions tables and provides a SQL query interface over those tables. The underlying storage is a commit graph, and it is exposed in SQL.

      What is Memcached?

Memcached is an in-memory key-value store for small chunks of arbitrary data (strings, objects) from results of database calls, API calls, or page rendering.

What are some alternatives to Dolt and Memcached?
      MySQL
The MySQL software delivers a very fast, multi-threaded, multi-user, and robust SQL (Structured Query Language) database server. MySQL Server is intended for mission-critical, heavy-load production systems as well as for embedding into mass-deployed software.
      PostgreSQL
PostgreSQL is an advanced object-relational database management system that supports an extended subset of the SQL standard, including transactions, foreign keys, subqueries, triggers, user-defined types and functions.
      MongoDB
MongoDB stores data in JSON-like documents that can vary in structure, offering a dynamic, flexible schema. MongoDB was also designed for high availability and scalability, with built-in replication and auto-sharding.
      Microsoft SQL Server
Microsoft® SQL Server is a database management and analysis system for e-commerce, line-of-business, and data warehousing solutions.
      SQLite
SQLite is an embedded SQL database engine. Unlike most other SQL databases, SQLite does not have a separate server process. SQLite reads and writes directly to ordinary disk files. A complete SQL database with multiple tables, indices, triggers, and views, is contained in a single disk file.
