Claiming a Tool

Learn how to claim ownership of a tool on StackShare.

If you're the creator or maintainer of a tool, you can claim it to manage its StackShare page.

Why Claim a Tool?

Claiming a tool gives you the ability to:

  • Edit the tool's description and information
  • Update the tool's logo and images
  • Respond to community discussions
  • Add integrations and features
  • Get the verified badge on your tool page

How to Claim

  1. Navigate to the tool's page on StackShare
  2. Click the Claim this tool button
  3. Choose your verification method (email or GitHub)
  4. Complete the verification process
  5. Once verified, you'll have full access to manage the tool

Verification Methods

Email Verification

Verify ownership using an email address at your tool's domain.

  1. Enter your email address (must match the tool's website domain)
  2. We'll send a verification link to that address
  3. Click the link in the email to complete verification

For example, if your tool's website is awesometool.io, you can verify with any email at that domain like team@awesometool.io.

Email Requirements

The email domain must match your tool's website domain. For example, a tool with website example.com requires an email ending in @example.com.

GitHub Repository Verification

For open source tools hosted on GitHub, verify through your repository permissions.

  1. Connect your GitHub account to StackShare
  2. We'll check your permissions on the tool's repository
  3. If you have admin or maintain permissions, you're verified instantly

This method requires your tool's website URL to be a GitHub repository URL (e.g., https://github.com/org/repo).

After Claiming

Once you've claimed a tool, you can:

  • Edit details - Update description, category, and tags
  • Manage images - Upload logo and hero images
  • Add links - Documentation, repository, and other resources
  • View analytics - See how developers interact with your tool page

Your tool will also display a verified badge, showing the community that it's officially managed.

Transferring Ownership

If you need to transfer tool ownership to another team member:

  1. Have the new owner create a StackShare account
  2. Contact support with the transfer request
  3. We'll verify the new owner and update the listing

FAQ

The claim button isn't showing

The claim button only appears on tools that haven't been claimed yet. If someone else has already claimed the tool, you'll need to contact support.

I don't have access to the email domain

Use GitHub verification instead if your tool is hosted on GitHub. If neither option works, contact support with proof of your association with the tool.

Can I claim a tool for my company?

Yes! When completing verification, you can choose to assign the tool to your personal account or to a company you manage on StackShare.
