Bootstrap vs Clarity Design System: What are the differences?

  1. Grid System: Bootstrap offers a responsive grid system that allows for easy alignment and positioning of elements on a web page. On the other hand, Clarity Design System does not have a built-in grid system and relies on CSS Grid or other third-party solutions for creating responsive layouts.
  2. Design Philosophy: Bootstrap follows a more opinionated and comprehensive design approach, providing a wide range of pre-styled components and templates, making it easier for developers to quickly prototype and build websites. Clarity Design System, on the other hand, focuses on simplicity and usability, offering a smaller set of UI components but with a more consistent and polished design.
  3. Integration with Angular: Clarity Design System is specifically designed for Angular applications and provides seamless integration with Angular's component architecture and features. Bootstrap, on the other hand, is a more general-purpose framework that can be used with any web development technology, although it also has specific integrations for different platforms like React and Vue.js.
  4. Size and Performance: Bootstrap, being a more feature-rich framework, has a larger file size compared to Clarity Design System. This can impact the loading time and overall performance of a website. Clarity Design System, being more lightweight and focused, has a smaller file size and is optimized for better performance.
  5. Customizability: Bootstrap offers extensive customization options, allowing developers to change and modify the default styles and components according to their specific needs. Clarity Design System, on the other hand, has a more limited set of customization options, prioritizing consistency and maintainability of the design system.
  6. Community and Support: Bootstrap has a larger and more established community with a wide range of resources, documentation, and third-party plugins available. Clarity Design System, being a relatively newer design system, has a smaller community but is supported by VMware and has an active development team behind it, ensuring regular updates and bug fixes.

In summary, Bootstrap is a comprehensive and highly customizable framework with a wide range of resources and integrations, while Clarity Design System focuses on simplicity, consistency, and Angular integration, with a smaller file size and performance optimization.

Decided

I do prefer to write things from scratch however when it came to wanting to jump-start the frontend, I found that it was taking me a lot longer hence why needing to use something very fast.

Bootstrap was the boom when it came out, I didn't like it, to be honest, set in its way and a pain to over-ride and in addition, you can tell from a distance if you're using boostrap and as everything looks the same.

I came across Tailwind CSS as I wanted more dynamic features, you could say, I've been now doing it for a few days and I love it a lot. I've been practising with the full stack part installed but I an't we wait until I do a new project, and I'll e able to select exactly what I want. Much faster.

Needs adviceonNew RelicNew RelicNext.jsNext.jsReactReact

I'm building, from scratch, a webapp. It's going to be a dashboard to check on our apps in New Relic and update the Apdex from the webapp. I have just chosen Next.js as our framework because we use React already, and after going through the tutorial, I just loved the latest changes they have implemented.

But we have to decide on a CSS framework for the UI. I'm partial to Bulma because I love that it's all about CSS (and you can use SCSS from the start), that it's rather lightweight and that it doesn't come with JavaScript clutter. One of the things I hate about Bootstrap is that you depend on jQuery to use the JavaScript part. My boss loves UIkIt, but when I've used it in the past, I didn't like it.

What do you think we should use? Maybe you have another suggestion?

Needs adviceonBootstrapBootstrapTailwind CSSTailwind CSS

I am planning to redesign my entire application, which is currently in Bootstrap. I heard about Tailwind CSS, and I think its really cool to work with. Is it okay if I use Bootstrap and Tailwind together? I can't remove Bootstrap altogether, as my application is using the js dependencies of Bootstrap, which I don't want to disturb.
