Directus vs Ghost: What are the differences?
## Introduction
Key differences between Directus and Ghost:
1. **Purpose**: Directus is a headless CMS that provides a framework for custom database solutions, allowing developers to build unique content management interfaces, while Ghost is more focused on publishing blogs and content with a user-friendly editor.
2. **Focus on Customization**: Directus offers a high level of customization with the ability to define custom endpoints and relationships between data, giving developers full control over the content structure, whereas Ghost provides a more standardized blogging platform with limited customization options.
3. **Multifunctionality**: Directus can be used for various types of projects beyond just blogs, such as e-commerce sites, applications, or any project requiring a structured content management system, whereas Ghost is primarily tailored for content-heavy websites and blogs.
4. **Scalability**: Directus is suitable for larger-scale projects that require complex data structures and flexible content management solutions, making it ideal for enterprises or organizations with diverse content needs, whereas Ghost is more suited for individuals or smaller teams looking for a straightforward blogging platform.
5. **User Interface**: Directus offers a customizable admin interface that can be tailored to specific project requirements, enabling efficient content management for diverse use cases, while Ghost provides a sleek and user-friendly editor interface optimized for creating and publishing blog posts quickly and easily.
6. **Ownership and Hosting**: Directus can be self-hosted on a server, giving complete control and ownership of the data and infrastructure to the user, while Ghost offers both self-hosted and hosted options, with the latter providing convenience but sacrificing some control over the platform.
In Summary, the key differences between Directus and Ghost lie in their purpose, focus on customization, multifunctionality, scalability, user interface, and ownership/hosting options.

So many choices for CMSs these days. So then what do you choose if speed, security and customization are key? Headless for one. Consuming your own APIs for content is absolute key. It makes designing pages in the front-end a breeze. Leaving Ghost and Cockpit. If I then looked at the footprint and impact on server load, Cockpit definitely wins that battle.

What is Directus?
Let's say you're planning on managing content for a website, native app, and widget. Instead of using a CMS that's baked into the website client, it makes more sense to decouple your content entirely and access it through an API or SDK. That's a headless CMS. That's Directus.
What is Ghost?
Ghost is a platform dedicated to one thing: Publishing. It's beautifully designed, completely customisable and completely Open Source. Ghost allows you to write and publish your own blog, giving you the tools to make it easy and even fun to do.
