Gumby vs UIkIt: What are the differences?

Gumby: A Flexible, Responsive CSS Framework - Powered by Sass. Create rapid and logical page layout and app prototypes with a flexible and responsive grid system and UI kit; UIkIt: A lightweight and modular front-end framework for developing fast and powerful web interfaces. UIkit gives you a comprehensive collection of HTML, CSS, and JS components which is simple to use, easy to customize and extendable.

Gumby and UIkIt belong to "Front-End Frameworks" category of the tech stack.

Some of the features offered by Gumby are:

  • Syntactically Awesome - Gumby 2 is built with the power of Sass. Sass is a powerful CSS preprocessor which allows us to develop Gumby itself with much more speed — and gives you new tools to quickly customize and build on top of the Gumby Framework.
  • Brilliantly Flexible - Gumby 2 is an amazing responsive CSS Framework. Websites built today must be mobile friendly in order to survive. Why have two different sites for mobile and desktop when you can have your main site be one size fits all? Gumby Framework is also incredibly customizable
  • it’s as easy as download, tweak, deploy!

On the other hand, UIkIt provides the following key features:

  • LESS - UIkit is developed in LESS to write well-structured, extendable code which is easy to maintain.
  • Components - A collection of small, responsive components using consistent and conflict-free naming conventions.
  • Customizer - UIkit's very basic style can be extended with themes and is easy to customize to create your own look.

Gumby and UIkIt are both open source tools. It seems that UIkIt with 14.7K GitHub stars and 2.11K forks on GitHub has more adoption than Gumby with 2.95K GitHub stars and 479 GitHub forks.

          Animate.css
It is a bunch of cool, fun, and cross-browser animations for you to use in your projects. Great for emphasis, home pages, sliders, and general just-add-water-awesomeness.
          Material Design for Angular
Material Design is a specification for a unified system of visual, motion, and interaction design that adapts across different devices. Our goal is to deliver a lean, lightweight set of AngularJS-native UI elements that implement the material design system for use in Angular SPAs.
          Foundation
Foundation is the most advanced responsive front-end framework in the world. You can quickly prototype and build sites or apps that work on any kind of device with Foundation, which includes layout constructs (like a fully responsive grid), elements and best practices.
          Material Design Lite
Material Design Lite (MDL) lets you add a Material Design look and feel to your static content websites. It doesn't rely on any JavaScript frameworks or libraries. Optimized for cross-device use, gracefully degrades in older browsers, and offers an experience that is accessible from the get-go.

Provides common user interface like dialogs, menus, etc. Is modular and hight customisable. A part from the grid system, is not used directly, but has as layer of abstraction build with web components, and typescript as far as possible with the time and working constraints, to be reused in other projects.

UI Kit provides so many great features out of the box. It provides all the tools to build a rich interface with very little configuration. Many of the modules are well documented and are relevant to the common trends we are seeing on websites today.
