RocketChat vs Zoho Cliq: What are the differences?
## Introduction
RocketChat and Zoho Cliq are popular team collaboration tools that offer various features to help organizations communicate and work efficiently.
1. **Hosting Options**: RocketChat is an open-source platform that allows users to host their own servers, giving complete control over data and security. On the other hand, Zoho Cliq is a cloud-based solution, eliminating the need for server maintenance but potentially raising concerns about data security and ownership.
2. **Integration Capabilities**: RocketChat offers a wide range of integrations with third-party services such as GitHub, Jira, and Zapier, enabling users to streamline workflows and automate tasks easily. On the contrary, Zoho Cliq focuses on integrating seamlessly with other Zoho applications, providing a cohesive ecosystem for users who primarily use Zoho products.
3. **User Interface Customization**: RocketChat allows users to customize the interface to match their branding or preferred look and feel, providing a more personalized experience. In contrast, Zoho Cliq offers a user-friendly interface with limited customization options, catering to users who prioritize simplicity and ease of use over extensive branding capabilities.
4. **Collaboration Tools**: RocketChat offers a wide range of collaboration tools such as audio and video conferencing, screen sharing, and file sharing, making it ideal for organizations with diverse communication needs. Zoho Cliq, on the other hand, focuses on real-time messaging and teamwork features, catering to teams that require quick and efficient communication.
5. **Mobile Application Experience**: RocketChat offers a robust mobile application experience with features that are on par with its web counterpart, ensuring users can stay connected and productive on the go. Zoho Cliq also provides a mobile application but may have limitations in features compared to the desktop version, potentially impacting the user experience for those heavily reliant on mobile devices.
6. **User Management and Security**: RocketChat provides granular user management options and security features such as end-to-end encryption, ensuring sensitive information remains protected. Zoho Cliq offers user management capabilities but may have limitations in advanced security features, potentially posing risks for organizations with strict data security requirements.
In Summary, RocketChat and Zoho Cliq differ in hosting options, integration capabilities, user interface customization, collaboration tools, mobile application experience, and user management and security features.

We chose RocketChat over other communications suites like Cliq or Slack mainly because we can self-host it on our own infrastructure. Since we have quite some projects going on which demand that we stay in touch with a lot of different stakeholders, pricing was an issue, too. With RocketChat, we have a huge set of features basically for free, RC offers apps for all major devices and systems and overall, we're very happy with it. The only downside is the limited amount of apps and integrations, but we can make due with what we have available.
