ChatEngine vs SendBird: What are the differences?

Integrating messaging and chat functionality into websites and applications has become a common requirement for many businesses. ChatEngine and SendBird are two popular platforms that offer chat and messaging services for developers to integrate into their applications. Key differences between the two are outlined below.

  1. Service Models: ChatEngine is a self-hosted chat infrastructure, providing more control over data and customization options, whereas SendBird is a cloud-based platform, offering convenience in terms of setup and maintenance.
  2. Feature Set: ChatEngine offers a more comprehensive set of chat functionalities, including real-time chat, file sharing, and user presence management, while SendBird focuses on scalability and reliability, making it suitable for large-scale applications.
  3. Technology Stack: ChatEngine leverages PubNub's infrastructure and API for messaging, while SendBird has its proprietary technology stack optimized for performance and scale.
  4. SDK Support: SendBird provides extensive SDK support for various platforms, making it easier to integrate chat functionalities into different types of applications, whereas ChatEngine has limited SDK support.
  5. Community and Documentation: ChatEngine has a smaller community and less extensive documentation compared to SendBird, which has a larger user base, active community, and comprehensive documentation.
  6. Pricing: SendBird offers a more flexible pricing model with options for pay-as-you-go or monthly plans based on usage, while ChatEngine may have a higher entry cost due to its self-hosted infrastructure.

In Summary, ChatEngine and SendBird differ in service models, feature sets, technology stack, SDK support, community/documentation access, and pricing model, catering to varying developer needs and project requirements.

Needs adviceonCometChatCometChatSendBirdSendBirdMSSQLMSSQL

I am considering which chat solution to choose between CometChat and SendBird, for our new app. The condition is, the app is going to run in a private network and has to connect with MSSQL. Any advice on other things I have to consider before choosing one, or is there another chat service you would recommend? Thank you!
