Ghost vs Publii: What are the differences?
- Hosting and Deployment: One key difference between Ghost and Publii is the hosting and deployment options. Ghost is a hosted platform, meaning users can sign up for a subscription plan and have their website hosted on Ghost's servers. In contrast, Publii is a self-hosted platform, allowing users to host their website on their own server or choose a hosting provider of their choice.
- User Interface and Ease of Use: Another significant difference is in the user interface and ease of use. Ghost is known for its minimalist and sleek interface, designed for advanced users and developers who prefer a more hands-on approach. On the other hand, Publii offers a user-friendly and intuitive interface, making it ideal for beginners and non-tech-savvy users to create and manage their websites.
- Customization and Theme Options: When it comes to customization and theme options, Publii stands out with its extensive library of themes and templates that users can easily customize to fit their brand and preferences. Ghost, on the other hand, offers fewer theme options but provides more control over customizing themes through its Handlebars templating language, catering to users with coding skills.
- Content Management Capabilities: In terms of content management capabilities, Ghost focuses on providing a robust and powerful writing experience with features tailored specifically for bloggers and content creators. On the other hand, Publii offers a more well-rounded content management system, including features for website developers and designers to work on the structure and design of the website.
- SEO and Performance Optimization: Both Ghost and Publii prioritize SEO and performance optimization, but they approach it differently. Ghost emphasizes clean and efficient code to boost website performance and includes built-in SEO features, while Publii offers more SEO settings and optimization options to help users improve their website's search engine rankings.
- Community and Support: Lastly, the community and support for Ghost and Publii differ in terms of resources and accessibility. Ghost has a large and active community of developers and users who contribute to the platform's development, offering extensive documentation and support forums. Publii, on the other hand, has a smaller but dedicated community, providing personalized support and assistance through its forums and channels.
In Summary, Ghost and Publii offer distinct advantages in hosting and deployment, user interface, customization, content management, SEO optimization, and community support, catering to different user preferences and skill levels.

So many choices for CMSs these days. So then what do you choose if speed, security and customization are key? Headless for one. Consuming your own APIs for content is absolute key. It makes designing pages in the front-end a breeze. Leaving Ghost and Cockpit. If I then looked at the footprint and impact on server load, Cockpit definitely wins that battle.
