.NET vs Helix: What are the differences?

## .NET vs Helix

<Write Introduction here>

1. **Architecture**: .NET is a technology framework developed by Microsoft, whereas Helix is a modular architectural approach used in Sitecore projects. .NET is a programming platform that provides various tools and libraries for building different types of applications, while Helix focuses on creating flexible and maintainable software by dividing a project into modules with clear responsibilities and dependencies.
2. **Language Support**: .NET supports multiple programming languages such as C#, F#, and Visual Basic.NET, allowing developers to choose the language that best suits their needs. On the other hand, Helix does not dictate a specific programming language and can be used with any language that is supported by the Sitecore platform, providing more flexibility in development.
3. **Scalability**: .NET provides scalability through features like Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Windows Workflow Foundation (WWF) for building distributed and scalable applications. Helix, on the other hand, helps in achieving scalability by promoting a modular architecture that makes it easier to add new features and extend the system without affecting the existing functionality.
4. **Development Process**: In .NET, the development process can vary based on the specific framework or technology being used within the .NET ecosystem, such as ASP.NET for web development or Xamarin for mobile app development. In contrast, Helix defines a set of guidelines and best practices for organizing projects in Sitecore, making it easier for development teams to collaborate and maintain consistency across different projects.
5. **Community Support**: .NET has a vast community of developers and resources available for learning and troubleshooting, ranging from official documentation to community forums and online tutorials. However, Helix is more niche and specific to Sitecore development, so the community support may be more limited compared to the broader .NET community.
6. **Vendor Lock-in**: .NET is a technology developed by Microsoft, which may lead to concerns about vendor lock-in for some organizations. On the other hand, Helix is an architectural approach that can be implemented on top of the Sitecore platform, providing more flexibility and reducing dependency on a specific vendor.

In Summary, .NET and Helix offer distinct advantages in terms of architecture, language support, scalability, development process, community support, and vendor lock-in. These differences make them suitable for different types of projects and development requirements.

Decided to change all my stack to microsoft technologies for they behave just great together. It is very easy to set up and deploy projects using visual studio and azure. Visual studio is also an amazing IDE, if not the best, when used for C#, it allows you to work in every aspect of your software.

Visual studio templates for ASP.NET MVC are the best I've found compared to django, rails, laravel, and others.
