Avora vs Power BI: What are the differences?

Introduction: Below are the key differences between Avora and Power BI.

  1. Data Connection and Processing: Avora offers a fully managed service where all data connections and processing are handled within the platform itself. In contrast, Power BI requires data to be connected from external sources and processed before visualization can occur.

  2. Data Limitations: Avora can handle large volumes of data with its cloud-based infrastructure, allowing for complex analytical tasks. On the other hand, Power BI has limits on the size of data that can be processed and may struggle with very large datasets.

  3. Ease of Use: Avora focuses on providing an intuitive and user-friendly interface for non-technical users, enabling them to easily create reports and dashboards. Power BI, while powerful, may have a steeper learning curve for beginners due to its extensive features and customization options.

  4. Cost Structure: Avora operates on a subscription-based pricing model that includes all features and updates, simplifying the cost structure for organizations. Power BI offers various pricing tiers with additional costs for premium features, potentially leading to higher expenses depending on the desired functionalities.

  5. Collaboration and Sharing: Avora enables real-time collaboration on reports and dashboards within the platform, allowing for seamless sharing and discussions among users. In comparison, Power BI requires users to utilize external communication channels or SharePoint for collaboration, which may introduce additional complexities.

  6. Customization and Integration: Avora provides some level of customization and integration options but may have limitations in integrating with certain third-party applications. Power BI, being a Microsoft product, offers extensive customization and integration capabilities with other Microsoft tools and services, enhancing its interoperability within the Microsoft ecosystem.

In Summary, Avora and Power BI differ in their approach to data connection, processing, data limitations, ease of use, cost structure, collaboration, sharing, customization, and integration, catering to different user needs and preferences.

Advice on Power BI, Avora

Head of Data at Mews

Decided

Power BI is really easy to start with. If you have just several Excel sheets or CSV files, or you build your first automated pipeline, it is actually quite intuitive to build your first reports.

And as we have kept growing, all the additional features and tools were just there within the Azure platform and/or Office 365.

Since we started building Mews, we have already passed several milestones in becoming start up, later also a scale up company and now getting ready to grow even further, and during all these phases Power BI was just the right tool for us.
