Kali Linux vs Windows 10: What are the differences?
Key Differences between Kali Linux and Windows 10
Kali Linux and Windows 10 are two popular operating systems with different features and purposes. Below are the key differences between these two operating systems.
Purpose: Kali Linux is specifically designed for penetration testing, network auditing, and ethical hacking purposes. It comes with a wide range of built-in tools for these tasks. On the other hand, Windows 10 is a general-purpose operating system that caters to a variety of needs including personal and professional use.
Open Source vs Closed Source: Kali Linux is an open-source operating system, which means its source code is freely available and can be modified by anyone. Windows 10, on the other hand, is a closed-source operating system owned by Microsoft, and its source code is not available to the public.
User Interface: Kali Linux offers a more command-line oriented interface and is primarily used by experienced users in the cybersecurity field. It has a minimalistic graphical user interface (GUI) with a focus on efficiency and performance. Windows 10, on the other hand, provides a user-friendly GUI that is designed to be intuitive and accessible to a wide range of users, including beginners.
Software Compatibility: Windows 10 is known for its extensive software compatibility and supports a wide range of applications. It has a large number of commercially available software that can be installed and used without any compatibility issues. Kali Linux, on the other hand, may not be compatible with all software, especially those designed specifically for Windows.
Security Features: While both operating systems offer security features, Kali Linux focuses more on security testing and comes bundled with a variety of tools for vulnerability assessment and penetration testing. Windows 10, on the other hand, offers a range of security features such as antivirus software, Windows Defender, firewall, and secure boot to protect the system from common threats.
Updates and Support: Windows 10 receives regular software updates and security patches from Microsoft, ensuring that the operating system is up to date and protected against emerging threats. It also has a dedicated support system with customer support readily available. Kali Linux, being an open-source community-driven project, relies on community support and updates may not be as frequent or structured as those provided by Microsoft.
In summary, Kali Linux and Windows 10 differ in their purposes, user interface, software compatibility, security features, and support. Kali Linux is primarily aimed at cybersecurity professionals and offers specialized tools for penetration testing, while Windows 10 is a general-purpose operating system catering to a wide range of users.
Ubuntu is much more faster over Windows and helps to get software and other utilities easier and within a short span of time compared to Windows.
Ubuntu helps to get robustness and resiliency over Windows. Ubuntu runs faster than Windows on every computer that I have ever tested. LibreOffice (Ubuntu's default office suite) runs much faster than Microsoft Office on every computer that I have ever tested.
I liked manjaro a lot, the huge support it has and the variety of tools it provides is just awesome. But due to its parent platform being Arch Linux it has bleeding-edge technology and that meaning, we get updated 'daily', and if we keep updating the system daily, due to the bugs in the recent updates the system sometimes used to crash, this made the OS really unstable. However, one can avoid such crashes using periodical and careful system/package updates. I now use LinuxMint which is based on Ubuntu, and this OS is completely stable with reliable(mostly tested) updates. And, since this OS is backed up by UBUNTU the concerns/questions one can encounter while using the OS can be easily rectified using the UBUNTU community, which is pretty good. Though this is backed up on UBUNTU it most certainly does NOT include the proprietary stuff of UBUNTU, which is on the bright side of the OS. That's it! Happy Computing.
