Google Hangouts Chat

Google Hangouts Chat

Business Tools / Collaboration / Group Chat & Notifications

I'm looking for advice on what App to use in conversation and phone calls to someone who lives out of the country. Should I use Google Hangouts, Google Hangouts Chat, or does anyone have any other suggestions? I would greatly appreciate any help you could possibly provide. Thank you

From hangouts/chat, I'd personally go with Google Chat as it's newer and still supported by Google. However, from personal preference, I'd go with Discord as it's so much nicer to use, it supports video, audio, and screensharing much better than Google Meet, and there are tons of features that Google Chat doesn't have.

Overall, Discord feels a lot "smoother", but Google chat might work just as well, depending on how often you're going to be chatting with your friend(s) and how many devices you plan to switch between.

I believe it is now officially just "Google Chat." I use Chat daily to speak with a widely disbursed team across India, the USA, and the UK. Rarely do I have a problem and I never pay a cent. Needless to say, I'm a fan. :)

Looking for the pros and cons for a tool we can use best for cross-team collaboration (software development). Has anyone compared Google Hangouts Chat with Microsoft Teams? What were the advantages of either??

If you need a workplace collaboration tool that integrates well with the entire suite of Microsoft productivity tools, Teams is what you want. Google Hangouts Chat is more specifically for video conferencing.

A more accurate comparison would be to compare Teams to Slack, and compare Hangouts Chat to Zoom. If your company is a Microsoft shop already, go with Teams. Otherwise Slack and Zoom.

The real question should be Microsoft Teams vs Slack. Hangout doesn't stand anywhere, it's not meant for collaboration; just for 1-on-1 or group chats. Even WhatsApp on Web will provide much much better functionalities (e.g Document sharing, and in-chat image viewer, basic formatting) (give you're okay with using WhatsApp for your work communications).
