GitHub Pages vs GoDaddy vs Wit: What are the differences?
GitHub Pages and GoDaddy and Wix are three popular options for building websites. While all three provide website hosting services, there are key differences between them.
1. Cost: GitHub Pages is free for hosting static websites, making it an attractive option for developers and small businesses on a tight budget. On the other hand, GoDaddy and Wix offer a range of pricing plans, including free options with limited features and premium plans with more advanced capabilities.
2. Customization Options: GitHub Pages is primarily designed for developers and offers limited customization options. It allows users to create simple websites using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. In contrast, GoDaddy and Wix provide a user-friendly interface with drag-and-drop functionality, making it easier for non-technical users to build and customize their websites. They also offer a wide range of templates and themes to choose from.
3. Domain Names: GitHub Pages provides free subdomains (e.g., username.github.io) but does not offer custom domain names by default. Users can purchase and configure custom domain names through third-party providers. On the other hand, both GoDaddy and Wix allow users to easily purchase and manage domain names directly from their platform.
4. E-commerce Functionality: While GoDaddy and Wix both offer built-in e-commerce functionality, GitHub Pages does not. This means that users looking to create an online store may need to rely on other platforms or plugins when using GitHub Pages.
5. Content Management System (CMS): Wix provides a comprehensive CMS that allows users to easily manage and update their website content. The reasons for choosing Netlify over GitHub Pages are as follows:
- Netfily can bind multiple domain names, while GitHub Pages can only bind one domain name
- With Netfily, the original repository can be private, while GitHub Pages free tier requires the original repository to be public
In addition, in order to use CDN, we use Netlify DNS.
