Clearbit vs Postman: What are the differences?
# Introduction
In this comparison, we will highlight the key differences between Clearbit and Postman.
1. **Data Enrichment Services**: Clearbit specializes in providing data enrichment services, helping businesses enhance their customer data with additional information such as contact details, firmographics, and technographics. On the other hand, Postman is an API development and testing platform, allowing users to design, test, and document APIs efficiently.
2. **Integration Capabilities**: Clearbit offers seamless integrations with various CRM systems, marketing platforms, and analytics tools, making it easy for businesses to incorporate enriched data into their existing workflows. In comparison, Postman focuses on enabling developers to collaborate on API development projects, offering features like team collaboration, version control, and API monitoring.
3. **API Testing**: Postman excels in API testing functionalities, providing a user-friendly interface for creating automated test cases, running collections, and monitoring API performance. On the other hand, Clearbit does not offer API testing capabilities but rather focuses on data enrichment services to improve customer data quality.
4. **Data Privacy and Security**: Clearbit prioritizes data privacy and security, ensuring compliance with regulations such as GDPR and CCPA to protect customer information. In contrast, while Postman also values security, its primary focus is on providing tools for API development and collaboration rather than data enrichment services.
5. **Subscription Plans**: Clearbit offers various subscription plans based on the volume of data enrichments and features required, catering to different business sizes and needs. Postman, on the other hand, provides a free version with limited features and tiered pricing plans based on additional functionalities, such as team collaboration and monitoring capabilities.
In Summary, Clearbit specializes in data enrichment services with a focus on integration capabilities, while Postman is an API development platform emphasizing API testing functionalities and collaboration tools.
From a StackShare Community member: "I just started working for a start-up and we are in desperate need of better documentation for our API. Currently our API docs is in a README.md file. We are evaluating Postman and Swagger UI. Since there are many options and I was wondering what other StackSharers would recommend?"
I use Postman because of the ease of team-management, using workspaces and teams, runner, collections, environment variables, test-scripts (post execution), variable management (pre and post execution), folders (inside collections, for better management of APIs), newman, easy-ci-integration (and probably a few more things that I am not able to recall right now).
I use Swagger UI because it's an easy tool for end-consumers to visualize and test our APIs. It focuses on that ! And it's directly embedded and delivered with the APIs. Postman's built-in tools aren't bad, but their main focus isn't the documentation and also, they are hosted outside the project.
I recommend Postman because it's easy to use with history option. Also, it has very great features like runner, collections, test scripts runners, defining environment variables and simple exporting and importing data.
Postman supports automation and organization in a way that Insomnia just doesn't. Admittedly, Insomnia makes it slightly easy to query the data that you get back (in a very MongoDB-esque query language) but Postman sets you up to develop the code that you would use in development/testing right in the editor.
