Paysera vs Stripe: What are the differences?

Introduction

Paysera and Stripe are two popular payment processing platforms that provide solutions for businesses to accept payments online. While both platforms have similar functionalities, there are several key differences between Paysera and Stripe that make them suitable for different types of businesses.

1. Integration Options: Paysera offers a wide range of integration options, including ready-made plugins for popular CMS platforms like WordPress, WooCommerce, and PrestaShop. On the other hand, Stripe provides a robust API that allows developers to build custom integrations for their websites or apps, giving businesses more flexibility in how they implement their payment system.

2. Supported Payment Methods: Paysera supports a vast array of payment methods, including credit cards, bank transfers, e-wallets, mobile payments, and more. Stripe, while offering credit card processing as its core functionality, also supports a limited number of alternative payment methods like Apple Pay and Google Pay. This gives Paysera an advantage for businesses operating in regions where alternative payment methods are widely used.

3. Pricing Structure: Paysera and Stripe have different pricing structures. Paysera charges businesses based on the volume of transactions processed, with different rates for domestic and international transactions. Stripe, however, charges a flat fee based on the transaction value, with no differentiation between domestic and international transactions. This makes Paysera more suitable for businesses with high international transaction volumes, as they can potentially save on processing fees.

4. Availability: Paysera is primarily focused on providing payment processing services in specific regions, especially in Europe. Stripe, on the other hand, is available in over 40 countries worldwide. This makes Stripe a more viable choice for businesses that operate globally or target international customers.

5. Subscription Billing: Stripe offers comprehensive subscription billing services, allowing businesses to manage recurring payments, trial periods, and customer subscriptions easily. Paysera, however, does not offer native subscription management capabilities, and businesses would need to rely on third-party integrations or custom solutions to manage subscriptions effectively.

6. Developer Tools and Documentation: Stripe is known for its extensive developer tools and well-documented APIs, making it an attractive choice for businesses that require deep integration with their applications. Paysera, while providing necessary documentation and tools, may not offer the same level of developer-friendly features and resources.

In summary, Paysera and Stripe differ in terms of integration options, supported payment methods, pricing structure, availability, subscription billing capabilities, and developer tools. The choice between Paysera and Stripe would depend on the specific requirements and geographical scope of the business.

We use GoCardless to simplify the way clients and partners pay for our services. What intrigued us is the quick and easy ACH feature that gives our clients the option to log in with their bank account and shoot the funds directly to our account. The fee, compared to Stripe is less. Stripe and PayPal charge 2.9% + 30c and Stripe also forces the client to enter in all of their payment details manually and then if the payment doesn't work, the client has to try all over again. GoCardless charges 1% + 25c which is much more reasonable dealing with the large projects that we are currently working on.

We integrate GoCardless with Xero to easily send out quick invoices, receive the funds and track all revenue in one place.

With COVID-19 looming over us, businesses are, more than ever, looking for ways to set up online payments.

And having recently gone through implementing both Stripe and GoCardless to get monthly subscriptions set up and automated on my company website, I felt there was no better time to write this blog post!

If you're currently looking at working with a Payment Gateway provider API, or you're currently working with one but are not a fan, are looking to automate things a bit more, or are just generally thinking about changing, then you should have a read of my latest blog post where I compare Stripe and GoCardless.

I compare APIs in depth, specifically the subscription checkout flow that both offer (they're very similar, with some BIG differences).

There are plenty of code examples on how to set it up in a Node.js environment and right at the end, I rate each API based on the following factors:

  • API ease of use
  • API documentation
  • Payment pages
  • Costs / fees
  • Security
  • Developer appeal
  • Customer experience
  • Free Trial

So feel free to check it out, and I hope you like it. Please leave any feedback as it is very helpful. Thanks!

Stripe was made with developers in mind first so the extensibility of it is great! This makes it very easy for us to integrate and automate as much as we need with its APIs and SDK. It allows a lot of customization of exactly what we need to build our applications. They also manage all of our customers from a tax and accounting perspective which makes it easy from a business standpoint.
