Strapi vs WordPress: What are the differences?

What is Strapi? *An open-source Headless-CMS *. It is an open source Node.js Headless CMS to easily build customisable APIs. It lets you manage your content and distribute it anywhere. It allows you to securely and privately serve your database of choice from your hosting and server of choice.

What is WordPress? A semantic personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. The core software is built by hundreds of community volunteers, and when you’re ready for more there are thousands of plugins and themes available to transform your site into almost anything you can imagine. Over 60 million people have chosen WordPress to power the place on the web they call “home” — we’d love you to join the family.

Strapi and WordPress belong to "Self-Hosted Blogging / CMS" category of the tech stack.

Strapi and WordPress are both open source tools. It seems that Strapi with 16.4K GitHub stars and 1.87K forks on GitHub has more adoption than WordPress with 12.7K GitHub stars and 7.78K GitHub forks.

So many choices for CMSs these days. So then what do you choose if speed, security and customization are key? Headless for one. Consuming your own APIs for content is absolute key. It makes designing pages in the front-end a breeze. Leaving Ghost and Cockpit. If I then looked at the footprint and impact on server load, Cockpit definitely wins that battle.

10 Years ago I have started to check more about the online sphere and I have decided to make a website. There were a few CMS available at that time like WordPress or Joomla that you can use to have your website. At that point, I have decided to use WordPress as it was the easiest and I am glad I have made a good decision. Now WordPress is the most used CMS. Later I have created also a site about WordPress: https://www.wpdoze.com

Directus
Let's say you're planning on managing content for a website, native app, and widget. Instead of using a CMS that's baked into the website client, it makes more sense to decouple your content entirely and access it through an API or SDK. That's a headless CMS. That's Directus.
