Assertible vs Postman: What are the differences?

  1. Automation Testing: Assertible focuses on automated API testing while Postman supports both manual and automated API testing. Postman provides a user-friendly interface for manual testing, whereas Assertible excels in automated testing by enabling continuous integration and deployment workflows.
  2. Time and Cost Efficiency: Assertible offers a free plan with limited features, making it a cost-effective option for small teams and individuals. In contrast, Postman's pricing plans cater to various organization sizes and provide advanced collaboration features, making it suitable for large teams with diverse testing needs.
  3. Integration Capabilities: Postman offers a vast range of integrations with popular tools such as Jira, Slack, and GitHub, allowing seamless workflow integrations for teams. Assertible, on the other hand, focuses on essential integrations like webhooks and CI platforms to streamline the testing process.
  4. User Interface: Postman boasts a more visually appealing and intuitive user interface, making it easier for users to navigate and utilize its features efficiently. Assertible's interface is more straightforward and minimalistic, catering primarily to users who prioritize functionality over design aesthetics.
  5. Monitoring and Reporting: Assertible provides robust monitoring capabilities with real-time alerts and detailed reports on API performance and uptime. While Postman offers some monitoring features, it is more focused on the development and testing phases rather than ongoing monitoring and reporting.
  6. Collaboration Features: Postman offers advanced collaboration features such as team workspaces, role-based access control, and shared environments to enhance teamwork and communication among team members. Assertible, although it supports collaboration, lacks the extensive collaboration features provided by Postman.

In Summary, Assertible is a specialized tool for automated API testing with a cost-effective approach, while Postman offers a comprehensive platform for both manual and automated testing with advanced collaboration capabilities.

From a StackShare Community member: "I just started working for a start-up and we are in desperate need of better documentation for our API. Currently our API docs is in a README.md file. We are evaluating Postman and Swagger UI. Since there are many options and I was wondering what other StackSharers would recommend?"

I use Postman because of the ease of team-management, using workspaces and teams, runner, collections, environment variables, test-scripts (post execution), variable management (pre and post execution), folders (inside collections, for better management of APIs), newman, easy-ci-integration (and probably a few more things that I am not able to recall right now).

I use Swagger UI because it's an easy tool for end-consumers to visualize and test our APIs. It focuses on that ! And it's directly embedded and delivered with the APIs. Postman's built-in tools aren't bad, but their main focus isn't the documentation and also, they are hosted outside the project.

Postman supports automation and organization in a way that Insomnia just doesn't. Admittedly, Insomnia makes it slightly easy to query the data that you get back (in a very MongoDB-esque query language) but Postman sets you up to develop the code that you would use in development/testing right in the editor.
