Epsagon vs Sentry: What are the differences?
Integration Capabilities: Epsagon specializes in monitoring and observability for serverless applications, providing deep insights into AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, and Google Cloud Functions. On the other hand, Sentry is more focused on error tracking and performance monitoring across various platforms and programming languages, including web applications, mobile apps, and backend services.
Root Cause Analysis: Epsagon offers automated root cause analysis, allowing developers to quickly identify the source of issues in serverless applications. In contrast, Sentry provides detailed error tracking and allows for manual investigation to determine the root cause of software problems.
Alerting and Notifications: Epsagon offers real-time alerts and notifications based on predefined thresholds for metrics, logs, and traces in serverless environments. Sentry provides customizable alerting and notification features for monitoring errors, performance issues, and user feedback on different platforms.
Autotracing Capabilities: Epsagon automatically traces requests across distributed serverless architectures, providing end-to-end visibility into the flow of events. Sentry offers autotracing features for capturing transaction traces and spans in complex software systems, helping developers understand the performance bottlenecks.
Machine Learning Integration: Epsagon integrates machine learning algorithms to predict anomalies and optimize performance in serverless environments. In contrast, Sentry primarily focuses on providing actionable insights and context around errors and performance issues through its platform.
Dashboards and Visualization: Epsagon offers customizable dashboards and visualization tools tailored for serverless applications, including detailed dependency maps and performance metrics. Sentry provides rich dashboards and visualization features for tracking errors, releases, and performance metrics across different applications and services.
In Summary, Epsagon excels in monitoring serverless applications with automated root cause analysis, real-time alerting, and machine learning integration, while Sentry focuses on error tracking, performance monitoring, and customizable alerting across various platforms.
I essentially inherited a Shopify theme that was originally created by an agency. After discovering a number of errors being thrown in the Dev Console just by scrolling through the website, I needed more visibility over any errors happening in the field. Having used both Sentry and TrackJS, I always got lost in the TrackJS interface, so I felt more comfortable introducing Sentry. The Sentry free tier is also very generous, although it turns out the theme threw over 15k errors in less than a week.
I highly recommend setting up error tracking from day one. Theoretically, you should never need to upgrade from the free tier if you're keeping on top of the errors...
