We are a small company currently testing eXo platform as our potential information system or "internal social network". The installation on a fresh Scientific Linux 7 VPS was a breeze - just unpack and run a shell script as a regular user to start everything including Tomcat and SQL server, so within cca 2 minutes everything was ready to go on port 8080. Some little tweaking to set up a reverse proxy on nginx, HTTPS, and to ensure the script runs on VPS startup / reboot (cca 30 min of work and testing) and it is working.
There seems to be minor issues with international characters in some input fields and also the 3-core Xeon and 4 GB RAM OpenVZ container seems to be a little sluggish even when the eXo is not yet populated with data, but until now it is a very promising project, considering the code is open source and (if being satisfied to be lacking the customer support from eXo) you could stick with the open source edition, I would generally recommend to at least try it.
First-time users of eXo Platform will appreciate its user-friendly interface which enables them to easily share files and documents with fellow employees, and communicate information in a clean, simple environment. This software boosts productivity by enabling more effective communication and project collaboration, to meet set deadlines, and allow employees to work together, regardless of physical location. This is a platform which employees will actually want to use, and the initial implementation is a breeze.
We are setting up exo as an intranet for one company, so far it is really great. Is is user friendly but has a lot of features and it is quite easy to do some modifications. to fit your needs. We were looking at some other products such, but in the end, exo platform already comes out of the box with most of the features our client demands. Great work on Documents and Calendar!
Having recently installed MediaWiki (with BlueSpice) on my server, I thought it cumbersome and most of the documentation I needed was in German. Continuing the search for an alternatives, I found eXo, and glad I did. It provides everything and more that I was looking for in an open-source, intranet solution, to allow team members to work together. Recommend!
Speaking from my experience, I really recommend eXo Platform because it’s a really powerful software: it’s not only a collaborative tool, but also a content management software; you can build your own website, manage, share, edit and publish all your content from only one platform.
