Basecamp vs InVision: What are the differences?

Developers describe Basecamp as "The leading web-based project management and collaboration tool". Basecamp is a project management and group collaboration tool. The tool includes features for schedules, tasks, files, and messages. On the other hand, InVision is detailed as "Prototyping & Collaboration For Design Teams". InVision lets you create stunningly realistic interactive wireframes and prototypes without compromising your creative vision.

Basecamp and InVision are primarily classified as "Project Management" and "Interactive Mockups" tools respectively.

Some of the features offered by Basecamp are:

  • Basecamp is super fast and famously easy to use.
  • Basecamp helps you get caught up if you’ve been away.
  • Have full control of who sees which projects.

On the other hand, InVision provides the following key features:

  • Quickly link up your UX sketches, digital wireframes and even high-fidelity designs to share with your team.
  • Send out a link to load your project in a browser, present it in-person, or sms your project direct to a mobile device for an instant touchable demo.
  • Threaded comments connect to a specific point on-screen and double up as to-dos.

"Team collaboration (non-tech)" is the top reason why over 67 developers like Basecamp, while over 156 developers mention "Collaborative" as the leading cause for choosing InVision.

According to the StackShare community, InVision has a broader approval, being mentioned in 991 company stacks & 363 developers stacks; compared to Basecamp, which is listed in 124 company stacks and 53 developer stacks.

I really like InVision. They're great for dumping a bunch of sketches on and showing someone else your ideas super easily. I highly recommend them for prototyping apps (plus they work on mobile!).
