Braze vs Twilio: What are the differences?

Introduction

In this document, we will explore the key differences between Braze and Twilio. Both Braze and Twilio are platforms that provide communication solutions but they differ in various aspects. Below are six key differences outlined between Braze and Twilio.

  1. Functionality: Braze primarily focusses on customer engagement and retention by offering features like personalized messaging, multi-channel marketing campaigns, and customer segmentation. On the other hand, Twilio is an API-centric cloud communications platform that enables programmable voice, text, and video communications, allowing developers to build their own communication solutions.

  2. Use Case: Braze is commonly used by marketing teams to engage with customers and deliver personalized, targeted messages through various channels like email, push notification, and in-app messaging. In contrast, Twilio is more often employed by developers who require programmable communications capabilities to integrate voice, SMS, and other communication channels into their applications.

  3. Integration Capabilities: Both Braze and Twilio offer extensive integration capabilities, but with different focuses. Braze provides integrations with numerous marketing automation platforms, customer data platforms, and other marketing technology tools to facilitate data exchange and automation. Twilio, on the other hand, offers a wide range of APIs and SDKs to integrate its communication functionalities into various applications and systems.

  4. Pricing Model: Braze's pricing is typically based on the number of monthly active users, while Twilio follows a usage-based pricing model. In Braze, users are charged based on the number of unique individuals who interact with the app, whereas Twilio charges for the number of messages sent, calls made, and other communication activities.

  5. Development Complexity: While both platforms have their own learning curves, the development complexity differs. Braze provides a user-friendly interface with visual editors and pre-built templates, allowing marketers without coding knowledge to create and manage campaigns easily. Twilio, on the other hand, requires some programming knowledge for developers to leverage its APIs and SDKs effectively.

  6. Primary Focus: Braze's primary focus is on marketing automation and engagement, providing tools for marketing teams to drive customer loyalty and retention. Twilio's main focus is on communication enablement, empowering developers to build customized communication solutions for their applications.

In summary, Braze is a customer engagement platform specifically catered for marketing teams, offering personalized messaging and multi-channel marketing capabilities. Twilio, on the other hand, is an API-based cloud communications platform aimed at developers, enabling them to integrate voice, SMS, and other communication functionalities into their applications.

Needs adviceonSalesforce Sales CloudSalesforce Sales CloudSalesforceSalesforce

Hey! We need an omnichannel inbox that's housed within Salesforce Sales Cloud that makes it super easy for our reps to respond to inbound communication (needs: clean inbox, provides historical context, etc.). We're a high-volume call center, and we get a ton of incoming SMS and email every day. We'd love a solution that lets us view all of that in one place — ideally Salesforce, as that's where our reps work, and we want to avoid needing them to switch between windows. Thanks!

As we are just starting, we are searching for the most affordable/best price/performance option for SMS gateway to verify client phone numbers with the code, maybe you can suggest something between those two or maybe something else. We are planning to do business in Europe
